Mastering Mathematics Program
Rationale: An overwhelming number of parents have reached out to us during the pandemic to inquire about support in mathematics. Students with suspected or diagnosed LDs are struggling with math and have demonstrated a need for this type of support. The aim of this program is to support elementary and high school students by providing 10-weeks of small group (3:1) multi-sensory remedial mathematics tutoring, twice per week.
Program Description: This numeracy program is designed to help children in grades 1-10 gain confidence and shift their mindset towards mathematics so that they can achieve academic success. As part of the intake process, students will complete an assessment with an LDAHH staff member, and be placed in groups that span a maximum of two grade levels (e.g., grades 1-2, 2-3, etc.). Tutors will work with children in small groups (3:1) via Microsoft Teams for one hour, twice per week for 10 weeks. Tutors will use a multi-sensory approach to teaching mathematics and focus on the fundamentals of mathematics: number sense and numeration, patterning and algebra and mathematical application to close gaps according to the needs of each child.
